This section answers common questions from CPAA Manitoba members. It is a helpful place to look before reaching out with a question.
Frequently asked questions
Leave & Time Off
Employment Status & Benefits
Article 25.12 states that non-urgent personal days are approved subject to operational requirements. This means that as a Postmaster, you may be called back into work if the situation changes.
If this occurs, we recommend discussing the situation with your LAS to explore possible alternative solutions.
For questions related to vacation leave, please refer to Article 22.12.
Article 26.06 refers to bereavement leave and uses the term “immediate family.” The definition of immediate family is outlined in Article 2.01 (m). Unfortunately, aunts and uncles are not included in this definition.
In this situation, you may request paid leave using personal time or vacation leave.
Vacation Leave Schedule – Article 23
With CPAA the vacation period begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st.
Vacation leave will be scheduled and posted in your office before April 1st each year. It must be chosen in one continuous period of vacation leave consisting of all or a part of your vacation leave entitlement.
Here are a couple common scenarios we hear from Members- hopefully this sheds some light on it for everyone
Do terms get to pick vacation leave?
Yes! Even though terms do not accumulate vacation hours, terms with continuous are entitled to schedule vacation (without pay) and be included in the order of priority picks
Can I book every Friday off in the summer as my first pick?
No! Each day would be one individual continuous period and must be treated as one. Your first pick would be the first Friday, and the second Friday vacation would be chosen in the next round of picks after all employees have chosen their first pick.
In my office, there are 2 of us that want the same time off. Is this possible?
Our Collective Agreement states: in offices where there are more that 2 employees, and suitable replacement schedules can be arranged and where practicable, more than one employee may take vacation leave during the same time period
